Kereke trial costs hearing postponed for third time

JAILED rapist and former Zanu PF legislator Munyaradzi Kereke's court hearing over the costs of his trial failed to continue for the third time last week after the Prosecutor General's office confused the dates.

Private prosecutor Charles Warara told journalists Friday that magistrate Noel Mupeiwa summoned him to the chambers and informed him that PG's office had phoned telling him that there was a typographical error in a letter served to them.

The magistrate said the letter indicated that the hearing was to be held on August 15, not on the fifth, as expected by the court.

'The PG called the magistrate and said the letter was written August 15 instead of 5; as such they did not know the hearing was set for today (Friday),' he said.

The case was postponed to August 15.

Magistrate Mupeiwa, last month, ordered the PG's office to respond to demands for payment of costs for the trial which was privately prosecuted. This followed Warara's application for legal costs refund from Kereke.
