MDC-T's Theresa Makone says land reform irreversible, war veterans should not be hounded out of their land

SENIOR MDC-T politician Theresa Makone says she believes in the 'irreversibility of the land reform programme' and those who already own land should not be removed from their properties.

The former Home Affairs Minister said this while debating a motion on corruption at the Senate this past week.

In her submissions, Makone railed against President Robert Mugabe's government for attempts to throw war veterans out of land the latter grabbed violently from white farmers during the controversial land grab exercise.

'Madam President, it was with great sadness that I noticed that some of the war veterans who are in a dispute with their party were invaded last week and were being asked to leave the land that they occupy. That is grossly wrong,' Makone said.

She was referring to embattled Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association secretary general Victor Matemadanda whose farm was invaded by Zanu PF supporters two weeks ago.

Matemadanda belongs to a war veterans' camp that has openly rowed with President Mugabe after the aged leader's high handed response to calls by his former allies to rein in a Zanu PF camp that is fighting for party control ahead of his much anticipated exit from politics.

But Matemadanda found an unlikely sympathiser in the MDC-T women's assembly boss whose party fiercely opposed the grabbing of white owned land then.
