Police assault Mphoko hotel protest leader

ACTIVIST Stern Zvorwadza, known for leading protests against vice president Phelekezela Mphoko's 600-day hotel stay, was beaten up by cops at Harare Central Police Station on Thursday.

Ironically, Zvorwadza had gone to the ZRP facility to stage a 'protest against police brutality', saying he wanted the police to understand that protesting citizens were not at war with law enforcement agencies.

The National Vendors Union of Zimbabwe (NAVUZ) chairman visited the police station in central Harare a day after anti-riot cops used water cannon, teargas and truncheons to disperse activists protesting against the introduction of a local currency.
